Statement of Purpose
- Accessibility challenges apply to all alcoholics who have difficulties participating in Alcoholics Anonymous, including mental, physical, geographical, and cultural factors.
- The purpose of the Accessibilities Committee is to explore, develop, and offer resources to make the Alcoholics Anonymous message and participation in our program of recovery available to all alcoholics who reach out for it.
- Coordinate Accessibilities workshops at the group or district level.
- Assess accessibility needs at the district level and develop/offer resources to increase inclusivity.
- Conduct survey of district meetings and ass accessibility resources to local meeting lists.
- Help arrange for American Sign Language interpreters at A.A. meetings.
- Arrange A.A. meetings for members who do not have regular access to A.A. meetings. Work with the C.P.C./P.I. committee and committee members to make presentations to provide information about Alcoholics Anonymous.
- Provide literature/information in formats that help people with emotional, mental, or physical challenges to engage in receiving and carrying the message.

Accessibilities committees explore, develop, and offer resources to alcoholics with significant barriers to receiving the Alcoholics Anonymous message and to participating in our program of recovery. We want A.A. to be available to all alcoholics who reach out for it.
Committees focus on:- Projects that support members with a variety of accessibility challenges
- Communications that keep the public and appropriate agencies informed about A.A. accessibility
- Providing resources and guidance to groups so that they can accommodate all A.A. members

- Pamphlets, such as “A.A. and the Armed Forces”, “A.A. for the Older Alcoholic”, “Access to A.A.: Members Share on Overcoming Barriers”, Serving All Alcoholics-Making the A.A. Message Accessible”, etc.
- Loners Internationalists Correspondence Service
- A.A. literature available in audio and A.S.L. versions for free (Alcoholics Anonymous book and Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions)
New Accessibilities Committee chairs can be added to the General Service Office’s Mailing List for Accessibilities Committee Chairpersons by sending their name, address, phone number, e-mail, area, and district number to access@aa.org Once listed with GSO they will automatically send you a Kit with a workbook, pamphlets, and service material.
